Line-Managed Flight Training

Currently, flight training is provided in certain places, both domestic and foreign. After providing the necessary conditions for these trainings, we can participate and qualify for a license. Currently, we have 4 license levels available in Turkey. Apart from these licenses, we have a training program that we do not often hear the name of, but is very interested in pilots, dispatchers. This training is called “Line-oriented flight training-HOUE”. So, we can ask a question about what it contains, who it works on.

What Is Line-Oriented Flight Training?

This training is defined as the technique of training team members by creating the usual flight conditions in the simulator environment. This training is mainly for pilots. On the other hand, in addition to the use of role-playing scenarios and the participation of dispatchers with HOUEs, it is very useful for the application of non-technical skills. Also, as you know, pilots and dispatchers work in cooperation. At this point, HOUEs can be used to develop more accurate information and perspectives related to each other’s tasks. Line-oriented flight training is not only used to evaluate technical skills, but also to observe Crew Resource Management skills. It is very important that the scenarios that will be organized are more focused on the needs of the airline.

What Does Line-Oriented Flight Training Cover?

As part of flight training, team members implement scenarios covering routine, unusual and emergency situations in a realistic and operational environment. Flight training includes;

  • Communication
  • Management
  • Leadership
  • Decision-making
  • It focuses on skills such as conflict resolution.

With these flight trainings, team members try to maximize Crew Resource Management, threat and error management skills by creating scenarios similar to day-to-day flight operations. Through these trainings, airline companies enable team members to better reinforce what they have learned within the scope of Crew Resource Management by seeing in practice.

These scenarios are based on and examined by accident and incident reports. It is revealed whether similar problems arise in accidents and unsafe incidents examined by the flight training system, whether the procedures are applied correctly, whether the flight manuals are followed. This training physical environment they work in the compliance team members, and other tools and controls associated with the problems of the human element that fits the physical and psychological characteristics are also determined.

As a result, although the risk of accidents in aviation is low, its effects are very high. In order to prevent this, some training should be given to the teams. This is very necessary for both the airline, passengers and teams. In this way, awareness and safer flights are realized through trainings.
