Can Pilots Use Antibiotics Before Flight?

Most antibiotics are suitable for flights, with exceptions. Situations, where pilots need to use antibiotics, are already a situation that prevents them from flying. Pilots who must use antibiotics should not fly, except for important flights. Not only antibiotics but sometimes even vitamins are taken before the flight should be reviewed. Expert aviation medical advice should be sought before using antibiotics.

There are 3 questions pilots should ask themselves before taking medication:

  1. Do I need to use this medicine?
  2. Have I done a trial on the ground to see the side effect of this drug?
  3. Could the medicine I use prevent me from completing the flight safely?

Some Medicines Prohibited by Pilots

Antidepressants, Antidiuretics, Benzodiazepines, Herbal Sedatives, Sleeping pills, Smoking cessation drugs, Tranquilizers, etc. Even if some of these drugs are not in terms of content, they can make safe flight difficult due to their side effects.

Medicines Requiring Controlled Use

Some cough medicines that do not contain codeine, some pain medications, some hormone medications, blood pressure medications (should be followed), Asthma medications (asthma needs to be clinically stable). Such drugs can be used, but only with follow-up and advice.
